A gloriously romantic film based on a Jojo Moyes novel which intertwines a contemporary tale with a 1960s love affair.
Based on a novel by local author Jojo Moyes, this romantic drama intertwines two stories, one in the present and one in the 1960s. When Felicity Jones’s journalist chances on a love letter in her newspaper’s archive, she delves back into the past and uncovers the story of a passionate affair between an industrialist’s wife and the journalist who is writing an article about him. With glorious period costumes and a fine quartet of leading actors, this is a delight for fans of properly romantic movies.

The sixties period means that if you like your romances with a sprinkling of beautiful clothes and cars, cool music and – perhaps best of all – a Mediterranean Riviera setting – you have come to the right place … for those of us who crave romantic movies, especially if they have a period setting – The Last Letter from Your Lover definitely ticks many of our boxes. While the ending definitely slides into mawkish territory, the rest of the film isn’t too sentimental and mushy. The sixties-set scenes are a feast for the eyes and ears and Woodley and Turner make for a magnetic partnership who you root for. Fiona Underhill, Jumpcut Online
