Once a month—on (or near) the first of the month—I dedicate 12 hours to feasting on films #DirectedbyWomen. It’s a brilliantly vibrant way to explore the rich offerings women directors have been making to world cinema.
Today as we begin the 5th annual #DirectedbyWomen Worldwide Film Viewing Party, which runs throughout September (aka #WomanDirectorAwarenessMonth), during this film feast I’ll be exploring films I’ve not yet seen. In honor of this year’s Crucial 21st Century Cinema #DirectedbyWomen communal blogging initiative, I’ll be focusing my film viewing on work from this century. I’ll watch a few films that have been featured so far in the yearlong initiative, but will also watch some others. Which films will I choose? I’ll figure that out as I go along and update here.
How will you dive in and explore films #DirectedbyWomen during the month long celebration? Feel free to create your own film feasts, house parties, blogging ventures, community screenings, live tweeting while watching films with friends who live somewhere across the world, etc. There are so many ways to join the global celebration. Have fun. Invite friends.
Explore the Global Calendar to find events near you or to simply learn about films you may not yet be aware of. Be sure to use the #DirectedbyWomen and #WomanDirectorAwarenessMonth hashtags to connect with others engaging in the celebration.
